India is set to take pole position in World Homeopathy

150 million - In India, over 150 million people rely on homeopathy for their health problems.

50% rise in the last five years of footfalls of patients taking homeopathic treatment in 23 institutes of CCRH in India.  

 

In 1810, homeopathy set its foot in India with Dr. John Martin Honigberger, a student of Dr. Hahnemann, visited India and started practicing homeopathy. Maharaj Ranjit Singh, the then ruler of Punjab, encouraged Dr. Martin in promoting and serving more patients.

Within a span of over two centuries, homeopathy is now significant way of healthcare in India.

 

Homeopathy has been grown in India in a systematic manner.

Government of India, through Ministry of AYUSH, has been successful in institutionalizing Homeopathy in India. Ministry of AYUSH monitors quality and progress of homeopathic care in the country. In a fresh impetus to homeopathy, it is intended to take Homeopathic practices to the world. It is intended to make India a role model in homeopathic system of delivery of healthcare for other developing countries. India has already supported Sri Lanka development of homeopathy, its regulations, and policies. Students from study Homeopathy in India. Some of the countries are – Germany, BIMSTEC countries, SAARC countries. Homeopathic drugs manufactured in India are exported in large numbers to various other countries.      

Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratory, a national laboratory under Ministry of AYUSH, undertakes control and monitoring of standardization of homeopathic drugs.

Ministry of AYUSH recently launched first virology laboratory to develop homeopathic drugs and technologies to combat emerging challenges of viral diseases such as H1N1 (swine flu), dengue, chikungunya etc.

In order to develop, promote and accelerate homeopathy in the country, the government is set to start a state of the art National Institute of Homeopathy (NIH) in Delhi. The Institute, an extension of famous NIH Kolkata, is set to house hospital, research, post-graduate and PhD courses.

 

Growing Popularity of Homeopathy

According to a survey by AC Nielsen in India, 62% of homeopathy users have never tried convention medicines. It further states 82% of homeopathy users would not switch to conventional treatment. This shows strong belief of homeopathic users.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), Homeopathy is the fastest growing and second-most-widely used system of medicine in the world.

Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi has a vision for India to take the lead in the world in holistic healthcare. The Government of India in its current Union Budget (2019-20) increased the outlay to Homeopathy by 15% over the previous year.
